This page explains how fbPassport guides are researched, tested and corrected. The short version: we don’t publish a step we haven’t walked through ourselves on the live product, and when Facebook changes something, we’d rather update the guide than defend an old screenshot.
How we test
Before a guide is published or updated, each step is performed on the Facebook app and on facebook.com in a desktop browser. Where the phone app and the website differ, the guide shows separate numbered steps for each. Button and menu names are written exactly as they appear on screen, in bold.
Sources
Our two sources are the live Facebook product and the official Facebook Help Center. We don’t copy steps from other blogs, and we don’t guess. If something can’t be verified — for example, a setting Facebook is rolling out gradually — the guide says so plainly instead of presenting it as certain.
Updates and dates
Facebook redesigns its menus often, so guides carry two signals: a visible published/updated date, and a “tested” note saying when the steps were last verified. When a reader report or our own re-check shows a guide has drifted from the live product, updating it takes priority over writing anything new.
Corrections
If you find a step that’s wrong or out of date, use the contact page. Reported steps get re-tested against the live app, and if the report is right, the guide is fixed and its updated date reflects that. We treat reader reports as the most valuable feedback we get.
Ads and independence
fbPassport is supported by advertising (Google AdSense). Advertisers have no say in what we cover or what the steps say, and we don’t accept payment to recommend a product or workaround. fbPassport is an independent site and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, Facebook or Meta.
